Between the NBA/WNBA/Olympics, hoops are in full swing. And while we didn’t land LeBron James for this newsletter, we got the next best person — Cedric Joe, who plays LeBron’s youngest son in the new Space Jam (July 16). We asked Cedric to share two things that inspire him.
Inviting what you want into your life
by Kiran
You can declare your intentions in your mind or in conversation to a friend. But there’s a reason people say to write things down in pen and paper. It sticks.
At several points in my life, I’ve decided to make a life list. It’s always made more sense to me than traditional advice like where I see myself in five years. Is that even worthwhile given how fast the world changes?
Some people call this a bucket list and that’s fine. There’s just something about that term that cheapens it for me and I refuse to call it that. But what I like about the life list is that it doesn’t need to be hyper focused on one area of my life. It can be serious, silly, and hedonistic at the same time. It’s fun, and I often set the mood by giving myself one side of a vinyl record to get it done.
While I stand by the life list, you don’t have to stop there. There’s power in the physical and you can get creative with how you express that.
Want to travel more? Pack a bag that’s ready for spontaneous travel.
Wish you did more art projects? Get a small studio space for your creative pursuits.
Want a new career? Map out your ideal day and what that looks like with a collage or mood board.
Think of it as putting the universe on notice — and welcoming new energy into your life. Not into that mindset? Think of it as priming yourself for new opportunities and possibilities so when you see them, you can take action.
What you’ll find is that any of these actions make them far more likely to happen, kind of like the idea that the harder you work, the luckier you get. Give one of these exercises a go and let us know what happens. Got a routine of your own that you love? Let’s hear it!
